St. Alban's Mission Statement
We are called by
the Spirit to be transformed by God in heart and mind; to serve our
community, UCLA, and the world as the Body of Christ. We will grow in
faith, hope and love through the practices of worship, formation,
stewardship and caring ministries.
Mission in Action
Our mission statement was crafted during a yearly parish retreat. It sets
the tone for St. Alban's and guides us in our actions as a parish. Thus,
we:
- Welcome all who seek a house of worship.
- Invite all baptized Christians to participate in Communion during
worship services.
- Offer a liturgy-based service from the 1979 Book of Common Prayer,
with its three-year cycle of Bible readings - Old
Testament, Psalm, Epistle and Gospel.
- Use traditional hymns and fine choral music to underscore the
message of faith during our choral services.
- Emphasize personal spiritual growth and exploration as a defining
principle for St. Alban's and its parishioners.
- Provide fellowship through Christian education and parish
service.
- Minister to students, faculty and staff as the home of the Episcopal chaplaincy
to the UCLA community (Canterbury Westwood).
The missions and special ministries of outreach in Southern California
are a special concern to St. Alban's. We contribute more than 12 percent
of annual parish income to these efforts through our pledge to the
Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles.
Our contributions to the food basket placed near the altar during
Sunday services go directly to
local organizations that distribute food to needy families in our
community.
Members involved in diocesan support include Bob Vanderet who serves as
a Vice Chancellor of the Diocese of Los Angeles.
